We love the Bayou Village School. My daughter is now in the Kindergarten class and we love it. She is a bit shy and she has gained such confidence from attending this school. Her attention to detail and care for nature is incredible. Waldorf cares so much for the experience of learning. It really is a gift to send her there. - Cheryl
I have tried everything with my son (5th grade). He's done public school, homeschool, unschooling and Montessori. He's always had a tendency to refuse school. Bayou Village is only one he wants to go to!!! I think it's because of the homey environment and the small classes, that he feels comfortable. He is a little behind for his grade level and his teacher is great at working with him. I like that they have the same teacher every year. That way, the teachers get to know the kids really well. I also love the amount of time they get to spend outdoors. It's much more balanced than any other school. The kids don't feel so cooped up like at other schools. Waldorf "inspired" is a wonderful choice for us and I'm so happy Houston has this option!! I love the small community feeling that this school provides. And lastly I love all the hand work that they get to do, whether its weeding or knitting and crocheting. I think that is really important and something that other schools have lost. We are very happy here!

We attended Bayou Village School for 1 year, then my husbands job had us relocated, but golly, it was hard to leave this fabulous school! 3 of our kids attended in the preschool, kindergarten and grades programs and we just felt so at home there. There have been a lot of changes ( many taking place while we were there) but I felt the changes were always in the right direction. They were necessary and good for growth. I loved that i never had to worry about my kids being fed junk food, or being inundated with commercialized "kid garbage" that is so pervasive in our society. it was kind of an oasis of creativity and imagination for children...the way childhood should be, in my humble opinion. It's a beautiful community of committed parents and staff that we were so happy to be a part of. We miss BVS terribly! If you want a gentle, loving, play based, hands on approach to education, I encourage you to check out BVS! – Soni
We love Bayou Village School, our son is 4 years and 7 months old, we moved to Bayou Village after a very bad experience in a Montessori school, it was a very stressful environment. After his first day in this wonderful school he cried because he didn't want to leave and he hugged his teacher as he never did in the previous school. Ever since that day it has been a wonderful experience, his imagination has sparkled, he invents games and songs and enjoys nature, but what has been more important to us, he has developed more his compassionate side, looking for others well being, including animals. On top of all that, the parent community is wonderful, we've felt welcome since the very first day and it has been an amazing experience! – Elena
This is my son's first year at Bayou Village and it has exceeded our expectations thus far. We tried public school and found it to be lacking in the basic fundamentals of childhood development. Since starting his Waldorf education, his perception of school and learning has shifted, his imagination has come alive and he shows curiosity and appreciation for the world around him. – Allison
We are new to Bayou Village School and still transitioning from another school so we attend on alternating days. Every morning my 4-year old son asks "Are we going to the Old school or to the New school?". Invariably the reaction is the same depending on the answer: Old school - kicking and screaming and protesting, New school (Bayou Village) yay! Jumps out of bed, gets dressed quickly (and calmly) and out the door! This means a lot to me and speaks volumes about the wonderful experience he has at the school. This is all I need to see to know we made the right decision to drive all the way Bayou Village School from Pearland! – Cristina
We have been a part of the Bayou Village community for almost two years and we have been very happy. It's exciting to be part of the building of something marvelous and needed in this society while witnessing our son growing strong bonds of friendship and companionship. We absolutely love all the staff : wise and wonderful Tina, compassionate and smiling Mimi, peaceful and caring Angela, enthusiastic and artistic Michelle, loving Brittany and Hannah and our arts teachers, to multi-task, friendly, busy bee Vanessa. What a wonderful team of people to work with and to leave your child with. Steiner’s teaching are as current now as they were in the past century. – Magallanes- Ruiz Family
We love the parent / child class!!! It is so much fun for our little one and for us, too! Thank you! – Tia
We love Bayou Village School for so many reasons. Like an extension of home, our daughter transitioned beautifully into their program. She spends hours outside each day playing, gardening and taking nature walks. They prepare healthy snacks each day of the week with her favorite day, bread day, on Thursday; this simple lesson alone teaches her the value of preparing her own food, what nutrition really means, and she's doing this with her peers! Not at home with Mum and Dad. And as artists, we love the emphasis on creativity. Just the other day she was teaching us how to finger knit. How wonderful that something like knitting is taught to all children starting in Kindergarten, an art form laced with so many lessons and a craft one will grow old with. We love the seasonal celebrations, which all families are invited to join in. These are times of reverence and help us to all slow down as a community and reflect on the wonderful things happening in our and our children's lives. We can't speak highly enough about the community we have found through Bayou Village. Parents and friends roll up their sleeves and dig in. As active parents, we love seeing the fruits of our labor. This is a school where our efforts truly shine. We have found friends through the school, people who we see eye to eye with and are in sync with the way we are raising our daughter. That in itself is a gift. And atop of all that, her teacher is wonderful, as are the supporting staff around her. They are a dynamic community of educators who make learning magical. We feel we have found Houston's biggest educational secret. - The Porter-Smith Family
I love that my son wakes up each morning asking to go to school. I particularly like the Waldorf foundation of Bayou Village. Inside of each classroom, you can't help but feel relaxed and welcome. All of the staff members are great and eager to assist. I like how hands-on my toddler is at school, they assist in making their own snacks and they are free to play outside (rain or shine)! Those are a few of the things that I cherish about Bayou Village and I am eager to see the school and my son flourish. –Tara Fathabadi
I read about BVS on a coffee shop bulletin board. In four days, Cidette had transitioned into the beautiful atmosphere of Waldorf inspired education. As a beekeeper, the school’s close connection to nature really resonates with me. Still loving it, she’s in her third year. – Shelley Rice
BVS is a special little school that has been a blessing to our family. We drive from Kingwood, and it’s about a 20 minute drive. There is easy access to the HOV lane from Kelley St., which flows right into Hardy St. and to the school. There are plenty of schools in our area of town but none that quite fit what we are looking for. BVS seeks to gently develop the whole child. We love the focus on the natural world and creative play. It’s a great fit for our family, so it’s worth the drive. – Belk Family
In 2010 I grudgingly began to homeschool my then 5 year old because I didn't like any of the schools (public or private) in the area. I fervently wished there existed a small school (like I had seen in Australia) where my son could get muddy, garden, build firta, frolic with chickens-- a place where he could engage his heart and his hands, as opposed to just his head. I stumbled across bvs and fell in love the minute I laid eyes on the wooden toys, beautifully painted classrooms and sweet nurturing teachers. I knew I was home. I now have two (almost three!) kids here and wouldn't have it any other way. My now second grader has flourished in a way that he never was able to in the montessori schools we had tried. We'll be here until they kick us out. So thankful this exists within the loop! – Vanessa
It’s the best school of your life! – Miles, age 8
I like the approach to education taken by Bayou Village; that children are allowed to grow and develop in an encouraging environment that provides a good balance between physical and intellectual engagements. For example, art and music are fundamental to the approach, rather than afterthoughts that get cut because of a limited budget. Bayou Village is essential to my children's upbringing because how they learn something is as important as what they learn. I think that it's important for my children to develop curiosity and a passion for learning; that they learn how to learn. I am not hoping to raise good, programmable robots that will eventually be good at waiting to be told what to do. – Gilbert
My son looks forward to school all weekend. He loves his time in the garden, baking bread, singing songs, and building towers with his friends. His teacher Mrs Mimi is the most compassionate, loving, kind, and creative teacher. I love the diversity of the staff and students. I love that the environment of the school promotes imaginative and creative play while learning takes place. He loves being outside every day, enjoying nature, the healthy snacks, learning how to bake, the wooden toys, the magical festivals, and the unique birthday celebrations. As a Christian- I feel like it's a place that truly appreciates God's wonder and creation and helps cultivate awe in our children. It's a beautiful experience. -- Hilary
